Simple, modern and functional. That’s what the Shelter Home furniture showroom is about. And a little beauty doesn’t hurt either.
Shelter Home has been carrying Blu Dot furniture for several years now but we have felt constrained by the available floor space we could dedicate to the line at 704 Cookman Avenue. We would feature the great One Night Stand convertible queen sleeper, piled high with pillows, sell the sofa, then hesitate about replacing it because of space limitations. Inevitably a customer would come in looking for it. Where’s that great sleeper, they’d ask. The Buttercup Chair with its swivel and great silhouette would also be missed.
By the summer of 2013, Scott and Gene realized they had a problem to solve. Not able to move further back into the space they opted for up.
Upstairs from Shelter Home, growing the furniture showroom into the living room of their loft apartment. Having come across GUS, a great, relatively new line of modern furniture, they jumped at the opportunity to carry the line which led to the present furniture showroom.
The showroom features mostly GUS’s popular sofas and sectionals, from the sexy Jane Bi-Sectional to the sleek Atwood sofa. The Sparrow Glider, designed by one of the GUS designers for his expecting wife, is an understated armchair that functions as a rocker by “gliding.” Sit in it and you’ll see what I mean. The GT Rocker is another winner. Inspired by sports cars from the 1970s, this beauty has been featured in Dwell magazine. The showroom features GUS Modern and BluDot with some accents from our store downstairs.
